MediaTek successfully demonstrates Wi-Fi 7 technology with the speed 2.4x

Mediatek has been working on Wi-Fi 7 since its establishment and becomes the first to adapt to WiFi 7 technology. As of 19th January 2022, Mediatek made an announcement for two successful live demonstrations on WiFi 7 technology. The market is not yet completely over Wi-Fi 6 and here Wi-Fi 7 steals the show. The key customers and industry collaborators witnessed the live demonstration. Demonstration that discussed the super-fast speed of the technology including the low latent transmission.

MediaTek Wi-Fi 7, Wifi 7

 what’s new?

The technical name of Wi-Fi 7 is IEEE 802.11be having the nickname ‘Extremely high throughput’. And, it is an upgrade to the existing Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E standard offering 2.4x speed. Wi-Fi 7 will render a maximum throughput of 30Gbps. It is a drastic improvement as in the case of Wi-Fi 6. Moreover, we can expect up to 9.6Gbps and for the Wi-Fi 5, the theoretical value is 3.5Gbps.

In Wi-Fi 6, the introduction of OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) allows the networking to control other devices with higher efficiency. However, Wi-Fi 7 technology adds on the Wi-Fi 6 in the aspect of coordination, expands the network coverage as well as allows several access points to communicate. Also, Mediatek affirms that Wi-Fi 7 will succeed the Ethernet or wire-line.

Future of Wi-Fi 7, expectations from it

The Wi-Fi standard will work on the existing frequencies 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz, and 6Ghz as that of Wi-Fi 6 with additions such as the utilization of 320 Mhz channels, multi-user resource unit, and 4k quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM). Also, Wi-Fi 7 promises a strong anti-interference ability. If we talk about the application level, it will win hearts not only in-home, industry, or any business but also in the promotion of 4K/8K videos, AR/VR, cloud computing, and more. Now, 8K video online playback is no more a dream. Users can get a better audio-visual experience as well. The future of AR/VR applications is yet to be discovered, for which WiFi 7 is strongly positive.

As we live in a world of artificial intelligence today, we require more rapid transmissions for the functioning of smart products and AI interaction experiences. And yes, Wi-Fi 7 offers a win-win situation for it.

Wi-Fi 7 market debut

In conclusion, WiFi 7 is an ongoing project and MediaTek says the devices that support Wi-Fi 7. It will be available in the market at the start of 2023. However, the standard ones will be on market by 2024 after the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer) certifies it.
