Meta Launches ‘WhatsApp Communities’ In WhatsApp Chat App

Meta announced a new feature named ‘WhatsApp Communities’ in its WhatsApp chat app. Mark Zuckerberg is the CEO of Meta Inc., the parent company of WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. He made the announcement on Thursday, April 14th, 2022.

Zuckerberg on ‘WhatsApp Communities’

In a Facebook post, Zuckerberg stated that the new WhatsApp feature will provide a deeper degree of digital connection among the platform’s over 2 billion users.
Also, In the update, he referred to the new features as an “essential evolution for WhatsApp and online communication in general.”

Further, he said, “Today we’re starting to test a key development of WhatsApp that we’ve been working on, WhatsApp Communities.”

In response to concerns regarding security and encryption, he stated:

“For a long time, it’s been obvious that the way we communicate online is shifting. The majority of us use social media and feeds to find a new information and keep up with what’s going on in the world. However, messaging has become the focal point of our digital life for a greater level of contact. It’s more personal and private, and it’s also more secure because of encryption.”

Purpose of ‘WhatsApp Communities’

WhatsApp Communities might become a school community with chats. Here, important announcements and notices for parents can be discussed. Moreover, it can be a work community where colleagues can discuss several topics. Also, it can be a neighborhood community and people can talk about things happening in the streets and programs. It becomes the quickest way to keep in touch with people. One of the main purposes for bringing this feature is to organize the group chats of users and find information. People will now be able to bring overall community for parents in schools instead of individual groups for distinct classes.

On WhatsApp communities, other additional features will be added, such as reactions and larger group calls, as well as huge file sharing.
